Thank you for this reminder today, Maile! Your story brought to mind two memories...
Back in my younger days, I ran an annual 10K race in Toledo. My goal was only to "not walk" at all. But one runner gave me a different perspective, when he smiled and said, "Someone has to come in last!" as I slowly jogged by. I admired his humility and his humorous, generous spirit.
And when you mentioned your pelvic floor... after my third child was born, I was determined to get back into shape (and yes, stop the leaks), so I got down on the floor to do a few sit-ups. I couldn't even feel the muscles I was trying to tighten. Nothing. Not a twinge. No feeling at all! It was difficult to keep YWV quiet that day! (I hope this brings a smile.)
Thank you for your wonderful writing and encouragement. "Keep writing... keep reading... and keep running!"
Karen, thanks for sharing those memories! Yes to the none existent ab muscles post partum--I remember having that same experience!!! Good gracious, the trials our minds and bodies must go through. But I think the humorous, generous spirit that your fellow runner had is the way to go when faced with these challenges. Thanks again for sharing, Karen--I always enjoy your insights!
Keep creating…and maybe doing yoga to fix this pelvic floor? Care to share those exercises as well as this creative encouragement this morning, my friend?
Beka, I wish I had the magic pill yoga move that stitched everything back together. If I did, I'd be sitting in cottage by a lake right now writing till my heart's content and not a monetary worry in the world. But alas, the hard truth of it is that I did lots and lots of Sun Salutations and chair poses over many months to begin rebuilding my floor. But I must warn you that, at least in my case, not all things are wholly reparable. Maybe I'll save that story for next week;)
I have a YWV too! Good for you for striving to overcome her! 😊
She's a bear, isn't she friend?!? But alas, we shall overcome!!
