I can relate to the sense of investing in the unseens of motherhood and many times feeling not “valued”, esp in cultural standards. Thanks for your vulnerability in sharing these words with us
Maile, I appreciate your honesty and vulnerability. Such a beautiful work of art. You are an amazing writer and human. Thanks for sharing your gift with the world.
Thank you, Maile. I have felt the same way several times over the years (I am now 67 and the whole, "what do I need to do with my life before it's over?" question often arises--even as I am already "doing" much). Your words resonate and comfort, and I am eager to see what your plan is! You are a gifted writer. I keep your posts to read when I have time to savor them each week.
Karen, thank you so much for those kind words. And thank you for reading! It's good to know someone else resonates with one's own journey. I'd love to hear how you feel you are answering that question in your life in a way that's satisfying...or maybe you are still trying to figure that out!!
I am chuckling--it IS an ongoing journey, isn't it?? This year, I chose the word, Cherish, as my guide. This will (I hope) serve to remind me that every day is a gift in itself, not by how much I put into it or wring from it. I am also meeting with a friend for coffee every other week; we are going to read a few books as we discern what our purposes might be for this season of life. Bless your journey, Maile! Thank you again.
Turning 45 had me feeling all kinds of feelings, too! Thanks for sharing! And I am inching ever closer to trying one of these vegan cheese recipes. Cheese has been my favored companion for most of my life. 😆
Oh, Lisa, if you are gonna give a vegan cheese recipe a go, this is the one to try. It's really so delicious and creamy. When I saw my son's friend loading it up on his plate this weekend, I knew it was the true test for this recipe. Since he kept gobbling it down and going back for more, I'd say it passed with flying colors;)

"The unseens of motherhood." So well said, Christina.
So much truth in this! I had to share it with the women in my study group at church.
I'm so glad you found it helpful, Tammie!
What a beautiful and profound piece. Also, I’m glad I’m not the only one. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you, Kerri!

You are always too kind, Jody, but I'll take it;) Thanks for showing up here week in and week out--I appreciate you!
